Introduction To Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Easy Concept

INTRODUCTION

Refrigeration is a process of removing heat from a place or substance to reduce its temperature and transfer that heat to another place or substance. It is just a process of cooling by which we can lower the temperature of any substance or space below the temperature prevailing in the surroundings.

It is found that foodstuffs are generally spoiled by microbes and bacterias. These microbes and bacterias grow rapidly in a warm atmosphere. They consume foodstuff for living and produce waste which is poisonous for the human being. Thus, microbes and bacterias, under warm conditions. grow rapidly and spoil the foodstuff and grains. To stop their growth, the food staff must be cooled to a sufficiently low temperature. This is achieved by the process of refrigeration. A refrigerator is a machine in which this process is utilized.

Air conditioning is a process that controls certain conditions of air such as temperature, humidity. air circulation, purification, etc. with an enclosure. The enclosure may be room, shop, office, house, school, college, cinema hall, hospital, restaurant, car, bus, train, airplane, etc. Air conditioning not only improves comfort but it also improves the working efficiency of the human being

This chapter shall deal with important topics related to refrigeration and air conditioning machines from an electrical point of view.

1.REFRIGERATION

The process of reducing the temperature of a body from the general level of temperature of its surroundings is called refrigeration.

2.AIR CONDITIONING

The process that controls certain air conditions such as temperature, humidity, air circulation, purification, etc. within an enclosed space is called air conditioning.

Air conditioning means control of temperature, humidity, purity, and movement of air. The working conditions and comfort for human beings are improved by air conditioning. The temperature of the building to be air-conditioned is brought down during summer and increased during winter without causing any discomfort. The air after necessary control and adjustment is circulated throughout the building. This circulation of air is either affected naturally or forced by a fan. The humidity is maintained at about 60% being most suitable for human beings.

The use of air-conditioning is being extended fastly to multiroom buildings, restaurants and night clubs, trains, cars, etc.

3. UNITS OF REFRIGERATION

The unit of refrigeration is \’Ton

Une Ton is defined as the rate of cooling obtained by melting of one ton of ice at 0°C in 24 hours. It is caus is equivalent to a heat extraction rate of 50 kcal/minute.
